September 22, 2006 | PARADISE -- Finding information about Paradise may get easier with a more accessible and complete Web site, City Council members said Wednesday.

"We're getting big enough we're going to have to do something," Councilman Dale Anderson said of developing the site. The council spoke about getting further professional assistance to get their Web site more completely started and then be able to make changes and update it themselves.

The site could potentially include aerial mapping of the town, and Mayor Lee Atwood said bill payment could be set up for the council members to decide whether or not to use it.

The website, paradiseut.com, is now in a beginning stage. It includes over 10 links, but only the home and fire department links take browsers to a working page.

"We took the baby steps and got there," said Anderson.

The council would like the site to be included in searches such as Google. Councilman Leland Howlett said he searched for over an hour and could not find the Web site.

The council also went over fire department age regulations. Although there are firefighters younger than 21 in the Paradise Fire Department, Atwood said Paradise firefighters must follow the state code regarding age limits with training. He said firefighters can be younger than 18 and participate in limited training activities, and those over 18 can go on a call. However, to drive a fire truck, they must be 21 and fully certified, said Atwood.

Because those at the volunteer fire department are insured through the Utah Logan Government Trust, officials need to make sure the drivers are in compliance with the regulations.

In other business, the council:
-- discussed allowing a trailer park in the town that would use the same regulation of one dwelling per 1 1/4 acres. "We have to be thinking about affordable housing," Councilman Margaret Obray said.
-- decided to have an executive session listed on the next agenda. The meeting will be closed due to the discussion of personnel.
-- debated about whether they or the county would need to make the decision for approval of a Cingular wireless cell phone tower. It was unsure whether the area for the tower is in Paradise's boundaries. The council said they will discuss the decision to approve once they have a survey.
