Providence
OKs election judges
By Emil Dixon
September 29, 2005 | PROVIDENCE -- Election
judges for all city precincts were unanimously approved
by the City Council Tuesday evening for the Oct. 4 and
Nov. 8 elections.
Election judges are responsible for overseeing polls
and ensure voters' rights during the poll period. Judges
also open and close the polls, certify election results,
and register/sign-in voters. No political party is allowed
to have a majority of judges in one precinct.
The council also reviewed results from the city's
2005 audit report, presented by Dianna Cannal, and accepted
responsibility to care for the Veterans' Memorial.
"I feel the city has done a very good job with their
finances this year," said Cannal. "[The report] reflects
very well on the city." She said the city was out of
compliance with the state of Utah last year, but congratulated
the council for keeping everything on budget by paying
down debt and increasing its assets this year.
The Veterans Memorial Committee gave the council nearly
$15,000 to aid in the memorial's upkeep, which will
entail an annual pressure wash and regular maintenance.
Mayor Alma Leonhardt said he was happy to have the responsibility
of maintaining the memorial.
"Every time I come by that monument, I don't care
how many years now, I almost get choked up," he said,
"The city will take excellent care of it."
In other business the council:
-- tabled a resolution to reimburse Craig Kendrick for
off-site sewer installation in connection with Sunset
Estates Subdivision, pending face-to-face clarification
of billed items.
-- tabled a resolution to lease a backhoe from Century
Equipment Company, Inc.
-- discussed a plat for Eagleview Estates Phase II Subdivision,
located at Eagleview Drive and Sherwood Drive. The subdivision
will contain eight lots.
