Tremonton big on activities, community involvement

By Rachel R. Keoppel

TREMONTON -- There is a city located in the north area of Utah that may be small in size but is large in activity. This city is made up of roughly 6,000 residents and over a hundred different recreational activities and community events. This city is Tremonton.

There may not be many big skyscrapers, or a roaring nightlife, but they have plenty of activities going on to keep the residents busy. Many of the different activities going on in Tremonton range from city leagues, activities in the city parks, wildlife recreation, and educational events.

One of the biggest activities to be a participant of in Tremonton are the city-sponsored leagues. There is a wide selection of sports offered and they occur throughout the year.

"City league is a big thing in Tremonton, you always go to the sports," said Erika Bronson, a resident of Tremonton.

Many of the city leagues that are offered in Tremonton are golf, softball, and basketball. "It was fun to go and watch the city league," said Bronson.

The city leagues are also offered to a wide range of age groups. There are different leagues for children and for adults in such sports as softball and basketball.

"There are a lot of kids who get involved in city leagues," said Bronson. Many kids and teenagers in Tremonton like to play for the city leagues, aside from the school teams.

There is also a lot of wildlife and outdoor recreation in Tremonton. Some of the outdoors activities that are available are camping, backpacking, fishing, and off-highway vehicle use.

Tremonton keeps its community strong with events for residents throughout the year. Some of the activities that are happening or have happened this year are, the city's Centennial Celebration, the pumpkin festival, Christmas tree lighting, and a concert series.

Educational activities are also a part of the Tremonton community. So far this year there have been two different academic activities for residents to participate in. The first one was an essay contest that children could take part in to win roses for their mother. The second was an activity for children and adults. Children could submit a drawing, and adults submitted photos of their favorite Tremonton recreational activity to win a waiver for the recreational program of their choice.

Tremonton may seem like a small city, but all of the different community activities make it big in residential involvement.
