Home show parades through River Heights

By Tamber Mickelson

RIVER HEIGHTS -- River Heights again joined the annual Parade of Homes in Cache Valley

A new two-story, four-bedroom, two and one half bathroom, gray stucco and red brick home was added to the River Heights community and was open to the public as part of the Parade of Homes show.

This year's Parade of Homes began Sept. 12 and ran through Saturday.

The home show is presented each fall by the Northern Utah Home Builders Association. To enter a home in the parade it must be relatively new and the builder of the home must belong to the NUHBA.

Each builder is required to name the entered home to distinguish it from the others. The home's builder, Craig M. Smith, said his wife was so excited about entering the house in the Parade of Homes that he decided to name the home after her: Rebekah.

Rebekah (the home) is the first home Smith has entered in the Parade of Homes. "It takes a lot of time," he said. "There's a lot of extra cost involved but its good public exposure." He says so far it has been a positive experience and he may possibly participate again in the future.

"It's a great way for people to see the finished product, as far as homes are concerned," said Smith. He also said he chose to build in River Heights because it is an "excellent location."

Smith is the owner of Greyeye Enterprises Inc. He has more than 15 years of building experience and is a seventh-generation builder. He originally entered the home into the parade in hopes of finding a buyer, but only days after committing to the show the house sold.

New owner Kristy Brenchley worked with interior designer Amber Brandley Jackson to prepare the home for the show and for its new soon-to-be inhabitants. So while many of the items in the home are loaned out from local businesses during the home show, this home's furniture will remain because it actually belongs to its new owner.

Since Brenchley does not yet occupy the home she has been without furniture for some time. As compensation for this inconvenience, the furniture was moved in free-of-charge.

The home sold for $223,000, slightly less than the asked price of $225,000.

The home is the twelfth on a list of 20 homes on display in this year's home show. Out of the 20 homes it ranked first in several areas. The home received ribbons for having the best mantle over the fireplace and for making the "best use of space." The home also received the "neat and attractive" award for its interior design.

The home is at 538 S. 750 East (formerly known as Griffin Lane), approximately one block north of River Heights Elementary School.
