Providence man dishes up good news in 'Strictly Cache Valley'

By Kelly Hafen

PROVIDENCE -- Its motto is getting the good news out. And Providence publisher Lee Everton is getting the good news out to the tune of 10,500 copies per week in his online magazine, Strictly Cache Valley.

Strictly Cache Valley offers insight into the Cache Valley community on a local level, Everton said. He said it is for people who want to hear the good news.

Wanting to promote local events, Everton started the magazine nearly six months ago, reaching over 10,500 people. Everton said the magazine is "a place where people can get the information they want.

The articles focus on upcoming events such as the Bridal Fair at Utah State University or the Top of Utah Marathon. Everton said the magazine covers anything from obituaries to the new restaurant on the corner; to stories about why people are who they are. He said the magazine is meant to promote a feel-good feeling for the people in the valley.

"That is kind of a unique thing," Everton said.

Strictly Cache Valley allows for people to read about local events, and the stories are written by people in the community, said Everton. The obituaries are archived and are available at any time, to anyone. Reviews of restaurants are also accessible. Articles focus on the present and historical incidents of the valley.

A list of topics, similar to a table of contents, is sent out to over 150,000 people across the Rocky Mountains, said Everton. Then people can write about what they want from the list.

"Community service, that's what I really want to get in the magazine," Everton said.

The lifestyle articles featured in Strictly Cache Valley focus on people in the community and the little things they do that mean a lot, he said. Trying to stay away from the "real commercial things," the magazine also provides an avenue for businesses to reach the public, said Everton.

Strictly Cache Valley is being read.

"It's something people use and I feel like it is fulfilling a need," said Everton.

Strictly Cache Valley is published every Tuesday. The magazine is free, just log on and read it at http://www.strictlyrockymountain.com/scv.
