Paradise council approves building plans By
Julie Ann Grosshans PARADISE -- The Town Council approved plans to build a shed as well as two new houses within the city limits Wednesday at its meeting. Vaught Summers, who is building a house and a tile shop for a family moving to Paradise, presented his plans to build on a 1.25 acre lot at 300 W. 8900 South. Mayor Lee Atwood was concerned the shop was going to be built with intentions for commercial use. "You can't make a business out of an accessory building," Atwood said. "We ask that of everyone building an accessory building." Summers said the Planning and Zoning Commission told him Tuesday both the house and the shop must sit the same difference off the street. None of the council members had previously heard of the regulation. "That's new to me," said Counciwoman Karen Rinderknect. "They [Planning and Zoning Commission] read over it with a fine tooth comb and I don't." Summers said it was not a problem but Atwood said he was still curious about the rule. Atwood said he would not "open a can of worms" over something that did not concern the builder. Ryan Wardle was looking for a spacious place to settle down with his family and said Paradise was the perfect fit. "We couldn't agree on anywhere but Paradise," Wardle said of him and his wife. The house will be on 200 West and 100 East, sitting 180 feet off the street. Paradise resident Mike Nath requested approval to build a new shed on his property. The council agreed and instructed him to further take his plans to the county for a building permit. In other town business, the fire department reported two hand-held radios and two chargers missing as of last week. The department was hoping the city had borrowed them and failed to return the radios. The radios connect to the same frequencies as the Utah Highway Patrol, the Sheriff's Office and Northern Utah counties. An investigation is underway.
