North Logan approves money for Bonneville Shoreline Trail

By Jessica Kelly

NORTH LOGAN -- Logan Canyon and Green Canyon will soon be connected by the Bonneville Shoreline Trail. The North Logan City Council unanimously approved $2,000 in funds to be used toward the trail project Thursday night.

However, the plans will not be finalized until North Logan attorney Bruce Jorgensen and Mayor Jack Draxler review the legal agreement that would be made with Logan. In addition to financial support, North Logan would also be responsible for the upkeep of the trail in its boundaries.

The Bonneville Shoreline Trail would be 10 feet wide, with 10-foot vegetation barriers on each side of the trail.

Jay Aguilar, transportation planner of the Cache Metro Planning Organization, said that through a series of good luck and timing, a demonstration area will be completed between Green Canyon and the First Dam area.

Most private land owners have been willing to donate portions of their land to the trail project, Aguilar said. North Logan still needs one family to donate part of its land. Funds for the Bonneville Shoreline Trail have become available because of federal grants, and total cost for the project is about $50,000, he said.

The council also passed a revised municipal budget, appointed members to the human resources steering committee and approved the concept plan for the Beutler Subdivision that will have 15 lots. The next council meeting is at 7 p.m. Sept. 20.
