Crosbie named national player of the week in volleyball By

Amy Crosbie, a senior outside hitter on Utah State's volleyball team, was named the American Volleyball Coaches Association/Sports Imports Division I National Player of the Week. Crosbie, of Visalia, Calif., led the Aggies to a 3-0 record during the week, including a three-game sweep over Brigham Young University, which was ranked 10th in the country, as she hit .333 in the match. The 5-11 senior averaged 4.60 kills, 1.8 digs and .40 service aces per game for the week. She hit a solid .320 (46-15-97) during the three matches, highlighted by a 22 kill performance at Wyoming, and a .350 hitting percentage versus Pittsburgh. Crosbie is Utah State's career kills leader with 1,144. Along with being named the AVCA's National Player of the Week, Crosbie was also named the Big West Conference Player of the Week. It is only the third time in Utah State history that a USU volleyball player has won the conference honor, and its the first time in school history that a player has been awarded National Player of the Week honors in volleyball. The two other Aggies to garner conference player of the week honors are current Aggie Denae Mohlman in 1997 during her freshman season and former Aggie Marie Motil in 1992. Crosbie's national award is the first such award for a Big West Conference volleyball player in more than a year, as Elsa Stegemann of Pacific won the award last September. Utah State, which is currently 7-3 on the season, is the defending Big West Conference Eastern Division Champions and has won 20 of its last 27 matches dating back to last season. Crosbie was also named Utah State's Athlete of the Week as voted on by local media members in Cache Valley. It was the second time in the past two years that she has won USU's Athlete of the Week award.
