Head for Paradise if you're looking
for good prime rib
By Rebekah Bradway
October 30, 2006 | PARADISE -- Home-style cooking
and great service are a couple of reasons customers
say they go to the Cracker Barrel Café in Paradise,
Utah.
The café and restaurant, "a territorial trading post
since 1881," serves lunch and dinner and is home to
prime rib that the menu boasts as "the best in the valley."
And customers agree.
"It's good food and a lot of food," weekly customer
and Wellsville resident Jeff Thorpe said.
Thorpe, who has been going to the restaurant for about
4 years, said he loves the home-style cooking while
his 8-year-old daughter Makenlee likes the slurpees
best.
They must not be the only ones. Server Becky Lofthouse
said on Friday and Saturday nights, the two dining rooms,
equipped with seating for around 40 and 60 people, are
packed.
Lofthouse said the Cracker Barrel gets 60 to 80 people
on the weekend nights, while owner Alan Stock said it
can be up to 110 customers.
"This is a good place to eat," Walter Feifia of Nibley
said.
Feifia's sons, Jake, 11, and Mason, 8, said the food
is awesome and gave thumbs up as they waited for their
burgers.
Speaking of burgers, one signature sandwich of the
Cracker Barrel's is the J.E. Pounder, which includes
a pound of hamburger. The menu description of the J.E.
says, "Think you can finish it? Give it a try!"
And for the J.E. Junior, it asks, "Two-thirds the
size but all the goodness?"
When asked why he likes the Cracker Barrel, Stock,
who has owned the restaurant for about nine years, said,
"I just do."
The décor of the restaurant includes lanterns hanging
at tables and pictures of children in rodeos. Painted
brands from local farms cover the bar's white paint,
and in one corner, next to an indoor porch swing, sits
a fountain shaped as a wishing well. Its sign reads:
Wishes -- 5 cents
Wishes that come true -- 25 cents.
