landscape students get 'Extreme' hands-on experience

architecture and horticulture students are doing in
two days what it usually takes professional landscaping
crews some three weeks to accomplish.
The Utah State students are working on the set of
ABC Television's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition
to landscape the Janet Pauni family's dream home. The
students are working under the guidance of Professor
Craig Aston of the plant soils and biometeorology department.
The USU students were scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
Thursday.
They planned to begin by grading and leveling the ground,
installing a sprinkler system and moving to site preparation.
The students also planned to work Friday, planting about
400 trees, shrubs and perennials, some of which were
grown by the students and donated by the Utah State
Dale and Adele C. Young Teaching Greenhouse.
The students planned to work through the night on
Friday laying sod, putting down bark mulch, creating
flower beds and installing pavers and decorative boulders.
They hoped to finish the project in the front of the
house from about 8 a.m. to noon Saturday.
Aston is the owner of A&D Landscaping. His professional
crew is donating time to help with the project.
