Today's word on journalism

Q&A with Ed Bradley:

Q: What single issue should be covered more at CBS News?
A: Foreign news.

Q: Have you ever been assigned a story you objected to? How did you deal with it?
A: When I first started in New York at WCBS radio, the assignment editor automatically assigned any story that had a minority in it to me. I objected to being typecast and told him if I didn't get a variety of stories -- as other reporters did -- then I would take it up with the news director.

Q: If you were not in news, what would you be doing?
A: If I had the talent, I'd play bass guitar and sing in a kicking band.

Letter to the Editor: Relax the immigration process

Dear Sirs,

I was very glad reading the article titled "Give more people the opportunity to become U.S. citizen," by Steve Shinney. I am a student, and I am a good citizen wherever I go. If I wanted to come with a green card on my hand, it would be very painful and maybe I would never get it. That is why I decided to come as an student and then try to get a green card. I completely agree thatthe immigration process might be relaxed and you would gain, because you could select people you want here, instead of having people you do not know.

Congratulations to Steve Shinney. This is wise thinking.
