LOGAN -- Police chased a felony suspect on foot through downtown streets Tuesday after detectives recognized the man as a kidnaping suspect. After outrunning police the suspect was later found in a nearby apartment, hiding in a back bedroom.

At 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Officer Richard Jacobsen was near the police station at 200 North and 100 West when he recognized Omar Zarate-Ibarra, a felony suspect with an arrest warrant for failing to appear in First District Court on charges of kidnaping. A second arrest warrant from Logan Municipal Court for failure to appear for a traffic violation had also been issued for Ibarra.

"We identified ourselves as police officers and that's when he fled," said Jacobsen.

Ibarra quickly outran officers and dodged cars as he ran through traffic on 200 North.

"Given the limited manpower we stopped and requested additional help," said Jacobsen.

Police officers combed nearby streets, knocking on doors and asking neighbors for clues. Within 30 minutes and just a block from where officers lost Ibarra, police knocked on the door of 227 W. 100 North, #2, to find the suspect in a back room.

"He was hiding in the bedroom closet in that residence," said Jacobsen.

Without further incident, Ibarra was arrested and booked into the Cache County Jail where he is being held without bail.
