Cornish will continue current method of water bill distribution By
Justin Creech CORNISH --- Amid a property dispute with a neighboring farmer, resident Floyd Veibell's land was annexed at Thursday night's Town Council meeting. Veibell's 316 acres are now part of Cornish town, which means more of his property tax will go to the town instead of Cache County. Veibell clarified the purpose of the annexation when he said, "annexation goes with tax units per se." In recent months, Veibell and resident Evan Koller have had a dispute relating to the property line between their farms. Veibell said the county attorney had replied on their dispute. Treasurer Amy Murphy read a letter from the county attorney, which said the property dispute is a civil issue and therefore should be decided by the district court. The council closed the public hearing on annexing Veibell's land, and adopted the annexation ordinance on his land. Mayor Dyer Pitcher said some residents were concerned about privacy by having their water bills mailed on 3x5 postcards. Pitcher said he found out many other towns along the Wasatch Front and Cache Valley have the same water bill distribution methods as Cornish. In addition, Pitcher said it would be an "added expense to the community to put (the water bills) in sealed envelopes." The town will continue its current distribution method for water bills. During next month's council meeting, Roger Stokes will be sworn in as a new councilman. "[We] appreciate you going to help us," Pitcher said.
