Volleyball team falls at No. 14 UC Santa Barbara By

Utah State's women's volleyball team, ranked 19th in the country, lost a three-game match to No. 14 UC Santa Barbara last Friday by ;final scores of 15-8, 15-4, and 15-9. The Aggies drop to 18-6 overall and 8-3 in the Big West with the loss, while the Gauchos imporved to 16-6 overall and 8-2 in league play with the win. The loss snaps a six-game winning streak for USU. "We made way to many mistakes tonight to play with a team like Santa Barbara," commented second-year head coach Tom Peterson. "At times we just played nervous and under fire. For some reason it is hard for us to come to California right now and play well. We are a fragile team if we aren't at home and we need to get over that in the next couple of weeks." Utah State was never really in the match with UCSB as USU only hit .171 as a team, while the Gauchos hit .319. Junior Michelle Matheson (Moreno Valley, Calif.) had a team-high 11 kills in the match to go along with four blocks, while sophomore Rochelle Currier (Aliso Viejo, Calif.) had 10 kills and six digs. The Aggies also got outblocked in the contest 11 to 6.
