Aggies suffer yet another defeat against BYU By
Doug Layne
Same old story, same old Aggies. Going into Friday's game the Aggies haven't defeated BYU in Cougar Stadium since 1978 and have managed only two victories against the Cougars in the last 20 years. Unfortunately for USU, they fell short once again as BYU blew out the Aggies, 38-14. Luke Staley led the way for the Cougars, scoring three touchdowns. Staley carried the ball 19 times and rushed for 75 yards and helped the Cougars build an the early lead by scoring on a 3-yard run in the second quarter. The Aggies struck back as they marched down the field with Emmitt White, who finished the game rushing for 61 yards and carried the ball 19 times, scoring a 1-yard touchdown run bringing the Aggies back to within three. With a 21-yard reception to wide receiver Mike Rigell from back-up quarterback Charlie Peterson, the Cougars managed to widen their lead, scoring two more touchdowns before the half ended. USU special teams trapped the Cougars deep in their own territory at the start of the third quarter forcing BYU to start at its own 10-yard line. The Cougars used up 7:51 and drove the ball 90 yards allowing Staley to score his third and final touchdown of the night. BYU went on to score the final touchdown of the game as Brian McDonald ran the ball in for a 6-yard touchdown.
