PROVIDENCE - Tuesday night's City Council meeting could almost be summed up in six words, "All in favor, say aye - Aye."

With some light discussions about past business, a move to approve a business license, and public hearing ordinance modifications, the Council did not seem to have a hard time approving more than half of the items on the agenda.

Homeowner Suzette Kleven came before the Council to ask for the approval of a business license for a hair salon in her home at 227 W. 100 North. She said she was not sure if this was something she was 100 percent sure of doing yet, however she wanted to get the license just in case.

"If I did this, I would first build on to the back of my house then build a separate room under that new section for the salon," Kleven said.

The Council mentioned a concern about adequate parking for this business.

"I do have a fairly large driveway," Kleven said.

Kleven discussed the possibility of pouring an extra pad of cement for additional parking purposes. After the Council realized that ideally only one customer would be at the salon at a time, the issue was resolved and the resolution for the business license was unanimously approved.

In other business, the Council unanimously approved a modification of the city's zoning regulations, adding Chapter 16, Fence Regulations.

"It defines front yards, side yards, and back yards," Planning and Zoning Commission member Carol Jensen said.

One item of business the Council voted to table until more detailed information was provided was the modification on ordinance City Code Title 7, Public Ways and Property. According to this ordinance, "Any citizen found to be in financial circumstances that he or she cannot pay one-half of replacement or repair, then the City may waive the collection of said monies." Council Member Jay Hicken said he was concerned about this subject being arbitrary because he questioned who determined which citizens would qualify for such benefits.

The Council also gave unanimous approval to a three-lot residential subdivision located at 100 W. 400 South, submitted by the Planning Commission, and to a resolution requesting the recertification of the Providence City Justice Court.

The Council will meet again on Oct. 26 at 7:30 p.m.
