Hyde Park allots $1,000 a year for donations

By Alexis Steele

HYDE PARK -- The City Council agreed Oct. 12 to set aside $1,000 a year for donations.

All of the council members agreed that if the individual requesting a donation can show that it is for a service to the community, that they will more likely agree to giving the donation.

After much discussion the council decided there would not be specific guidelines to getting a donation. Council member Dee Child suggested that they "look at each donation on an individual basis." Also, there needs to be a written agreement for the donation, and the service that will be done.

In other business, the council agreed to support the CMPO projects. These projects are designed to relieve traffic congestion for urban areas including Hyde Park.

The projects will take place over the next 20 years and are a "regional plan, with a regional benefit," said Tom Fisher, who presented the projects to the council. He said they will "provide a significant benefit . . . and will be cost effective."
