LEWISTON -- Members of the City Council, along with members of the community, discussed plans for revising the zoning ordinance at a public hearing Sept. 22.

"We just want to straighten the ordinance out and get it to fit what fits the community," he said.

Hirst said there are eight publishers in the United States who work only on codifying ordinances. Lewiston recognized a need for this service and is hiring a publisher.

After the public hearing the council met for its regular monthly meeting and addressed the dog ordinance. Lewiston has an ordinance that limits the number of dogs an individual or family can own to two. Council member Ronda Worden said this ordinance isn't being enforced.

"The ordinance should be carried through or dropped," Worden said. "It's like that with any ordinance. If we don't have the money or the time, why have the ordinance?"

The council discussed the issue of the ordinance. They didn't come to a definite agreement but many options are under consideration. Some suggestions included increasing manpower and having a license clinic for dogs.

In other business, the council granted a business licence to Karen Lott for a beauty salon in her residence at 88 W. Center.
