PARADISE -- Patrick Roundy and Kent Thatcher plan to redo the fence in Green Canyon that surrounds the main spring. It's their Eagle Scout project, and they invite community members to help.

The old fence surrounding the springs has fallen in many places because of heavy snowfall and trampling by cattle. The new fence will be built of box wire with barbwire on top and bottom. Supplies are being donated by Anderson Lumber.

"I feel that becoming an Eagle Scout has made me a more well-rounded person and leader," said Thatcher. "This has always been a goal of mine and my parents'."

The rank of Eagle Scout involves earning 21 merit badges. Merit badges include areas such as electronics, communications, family life and many others. There are 107 badges to choose from, including some that are required. Each merit badge attempts to teach a valuable lesson or skill.

Each Eagle Scout hopeful is required to prepare a project by himself that benefits his community and the people who live there.

Although Roundy and Thatcher will do the project together as far as getting supplies, each Scout will take his own day to be in charge and see that everything is completed correctly.

The project will start Oct.17 and will be worked on every following Saturday until its completion. Volunteers include three other scouting troops from Paradise and other community members willing to help. Everyone interested in helping is encouraged to go to the springs any Saturday at 8:30 am. Bring wire stretchers and come out for a day of fun and hard work.
