Get lost in the maze

By Wade Denniston

"You Spin Me Round" is a popular song by Dead or Alive. It can also be attributed to the first year corn maze at the Jensen Historical Farm.
The maze, which is approximately five acres can really spin a person around according to one of the designers, Luke Waldron.
He said that some of the trails can take you back to the beginning if you're not careful. That's why some people get so frustrated that they just sit for a while trying to figure out where to go.
But, there are people dressed up as scarecrows in the maze who will either help or scare you, depending on how they think you're doing.
Ryan and Marnie Ahlmer, from Gresham, Ore., recently had the opportunity to go through the maze with their 2-year-old daughter Sydnee.
Marnie said it was really fun and that Sydnee had a good time running around. Ryan had different thoughts though.
"I thought it sucked. It lacked the enthusiasm that I generally get when I walk around in a field," he said.
The maze opened on Oct. 9 and will stay open until Oct. 31.
The farm wanted to keep the maze family oriented, so it hasn't been haunted. That will all change on Halloween though according to Waldron. He said they are going to make it haunted, but no details were given as to how.
The maze has had a lot of success this year and Waldron would like to make it an annual event.
"It's been a lot of fun, so we're gonna try and make it a yearly thing," he said.
The hours for the maze are Monday-Thursday, 4-8 p.m.; Friday, 4-9 p.m.; and Saturday, 10 a.m.-10 p.m. It is lighted, but it is recommended to bring a flashlight when attending at night.
Admission to the maze is $2 for children, $3 for adults, $2.50 for students and $10 for a family pass. Group rates are also available for $2 per person.
The Jensen Historical Farm is located at 4025 S. Highway 89/91 in Wellsville. Call 245-4064 for more information.
