Best deal on a fast-food combo
meal? That depends
By Ronald

November 10, 2008 | We live in a world where almost
everyone seems to like to grab fast food. When you are
shopping, traveling, or in a hurry; stopping and grabbing
a quick meal is convenient. You have drive-thru windows
so you don't have to get out of the car and the prices
are relatively cheap. One great deal that almost every
fast food restaurant offers now is the combo meal. This
usually includes a drink, fries and a sandwich of some
type whether it be a hamburger or chicken sandwich.
When we go to a place and buy a combo meal we probably
want to know if we are getting a great deal. Of course
when it comes to the quality of the meal that is usually
a personal decision. I did a study of some fast food
joints in Logan to see where the best prices for combo
meals were. The places I looked at were McDonald's,
Burger King, Carl's Jr. and Wendy's.
The combo meals were broken down into an average of
how much you were paying for their hamburger combos
and also their chicken sandwich combos. Also, we want
to know how much variety is available when we go to
a place. Nothing is worse than going to a place and
having only three combo meals to choose from, so for
each place I found out how many combo meals were offered.
At McDonald's they have five hamburger combo
meals to choose from which equal out to an average price
of $4.91. When you look at their chicken sandwich combo
meals they have three to choose from and the average
price came to $5.33. One thing nice about their selection
is if you don't feel like a chicken sandwich they have
two other chicken combo meals. They have the 10 piece
nuggets for $5.19 and chicken selects (which are strips)
for $4.99.
On Burger King's everyday menu they have eight
hamburger combo meals to choose from at an average price
of $5.46 per meal. When it comes to chicken sandwich
combo meals they have two to choose from which are an
average price of $5.79. Again for those who don't want
chicken sandwiches they can choose a tender crisp combo
meal for $5.69 or a chicken fries combo meal for $4.99.
Carl's Jr. has six hamburger combo meals that
are an average price of $5.71. They have six other hamburgers
that are bigger and they call them their "6 dollar burgers."
The average price of these combo meals is $7.03. When
it comes to their chicken combo meals they have four
and the average price is $6.52.
Wendy's has five hamburger combo meals and
the average price is $5.67. They have three chicken
sandwich combo meals to choose from and the average
price is $5.76. There is one chicken nugget meal priced
at $4.79, in case you aren't in the mood for a chicken
sandwich when you go to Wendy's.
From gathering this data I can conclude that on average
if you are looking to get the cheapest hamburger combo
meal the place to go is McDonald's. This is also the
same for chicken sandwich combo meals.
However, if you want the best variety for both hamburger
and chicken sandwich combo meals the place to go is
definitely Carl's Jr., but they aren't going to give
you many offers for chicken strips or nuggets in a combo
meal.
As for the food, Wendy's is my favorite place to eat
and Carl's Jr. is second. Of course everybody has their
own opinion so you would have to try the fast food restaurants
out for yourself and decide. This was just a review
on combo meals to let you know about the variety and
prices of combo meals in Logan.
