Today's word on journalism

Career advice:

"Coleridge was a drug addict. Poe was an alcoholic. Marlowe was stabbed by a man whom he was treacherously trying to stab. Pope took money to keep a woman's name out of a satire, then wrote a piece so that she could still be recognized anyhow. Chatterton killed himself. Byron was accused of incest. Do you still want to be a writer -- and if so, why?"

Logan man sentenced on drug charge

By Tyler Larson

November 29, 2007 | LOGAN -- Travis Jensen of Logan was sentenced to 60 days in jail and fined $1,850 for illegal possession of a controlled substance, Monday at 1st District Court.

Jensen was arrested in September for possession of a dangerous weapon after reportedly using a baseball bat to threatn a man who had a connection with his girlfriend, Judge Thomas Willmore said. After Jensen's arrest, the police found marijuana on him.

Willmore dismissed the weapon charge, a third-degree felony, but kept the drug charge, reducing it from a class A to a class B misdemeanor.

"I know there is no excuse for what I've done, Your Honor, but I have learned something from it," Jensen said to Willmore before his sentencing.

Jensen's defense attorney, Maybell Romero, told the judge at the time that he committed the crime his life was in a bit of a spiral due to his parents' divorce, and asked if his sentencing included jail time, to allow him go on work release.

Willmore said Jensen is to spend 14 days in the Cache County Jail, after which he will be put on work release for the remainder of his sentence.

"Hopefully this will give you some time to sort out your life and return as a more productive person," Willmore said.
