votes to fix sprinkler lines
By Stephanie Hebert
November 2, 2007 | NEWTON -- The Town Council approved
spending $2,000 for five new sprinkler lines for the
city Thursday.
The $2,000 is just for the parts for the five new
lines, explained Councilman Gaylen Maughan. In addition
to the lines the town will also have to buy 50 new heads
to go on the lines.
The council also decided on a new policy that any
bill over $500 needs to be discussed at council meetings.
There was no previous policy regarding bills that are
owed by the city to be discussed by the town council.
Cache County Sheriff's Deputy Brian Larson reported
to the council that 300 South was quiet the night before
while a deputy sat there running radar.
"Your presence is appreciated," said Mayor Clair Christiansen.
The animal control contract with the Cache County
Sheriff was signed by the mayor, saying that the town
will pay the sheriff's office for 10 hours per month
between patrolling and incidents. This contract is only
for six months, then the council will decide to continue
with the same contract or if any changes need to be
made.
The planning and zoning meeting was canceled for the
month of October, said Councilman Jed Woodward. The
planning and zoning will be meeting in November but
the meeting will be moved to Nov. 29 instead of Thanksgiving
day.
The mayor also asked the council members to get with
their respective department heads and discuss how the
departments are doing, or if they need anything. He
suggested maybe for them to come up with five-year plans
for each department.
