Final Exam Week Edition 2: Ethnocentrism. . . .

"More powerful than all poetry,
More pervasive than all science,
More profound than all philosophy,
Are the letters of the alphabet,
Twenty-six pillars of strength,
Upon which our culture rests."

Woman will be deported for identity fraud after serving sentence

By Jason A. Givens

November 30, 2006 | A North Logan woman was sentenced Tuesday to 60 days in the Cache County Jail.

Elvia Flores-Molina, 26, received the sentence for two third-degree felony identity fraud convictions. After serving her sentence she will be turned over to the Department of Homeland Security to be deported to Mexico.

Flores's attorney, Ron Perkins said, "I think my client is a good person." Perkins requested his client be turned over to Homeland Security for deportation as soon as possible.

However, Maybell Romero, a prosecutor from the county attorney's office, said the state wants Flores to serve some time before being deported.

First District Court Judge Thomas L. Willmore described identity fraud as a "growing problem," and said Flores significantly affected the lives of two people. He added that she has family here and could have tried to enter the country legally.

"Good luck to you," Willmore said after he finished with the sentencing.
