Final Exam Week Edition 2: Ethnocentrism. . . .

"More powerful than all poetry,
More pervasive than all science,
More profound than all philosophy,
Are the letters of the alphabet,
Twenty-six pillars of strength,
Upon which our culture rests."

Annual USU Scribendi creative writing contest announces call for submissions

November 29, 2006 | Utah State University's department of English invites students across campus to enter their creative work in the annual Scribendi Creative Writing Contest.

"All students are welcome to participate, no matter their college or department," said Anne Shifrer, contest director. "While the deadline for submission is two months away, we want students to start preparing their manuscripts now."

Entries will be accepted until Feb. 2. Judging then will take place and winners will be notified in March.

Graduates and undergraduates compete separately in the following categories: poetry, short fiction and non-fiction essay. There also will be a new award for science and environmental writing. The contest is sponsored by the department of English, the Honors Program, and ASUSU Arts and Lectures. The sponsors have supplied cash awards for each category, and winning entries will be published in a hard copy edition of Scribendi as well as online.

For submission instructions and more information, visit http://english.usu.edu, and click on the Creative Writing Contest link. You may also contact Anne Shifrer at annes@cc.usu.edu.
