Final Exam Week Edition 2: Ethnocentrism. . . .

"More powerful than all poetry,
More pervasive than all science,
More profound than all philosophy,
Are the letters of the alphabet,
Twenty-six pillars of strength,
Upon which our culture rests."

Richmond P&Z sets public hearing on ag land rezone

By Jason Givens

November 10, 2006 | RICHMOND -- The Planning and Zoning Commission heard a formal proposal from the Stewart Land Group to rezone 10 acres near White Pine Middle School, Tuesday night.

The group plans to put 26 to 30 lots in the 10-acre area. The area is currently zoned as A-10 (one residence per 10 acres). The rezone would make it residential medium density (one residence per 10,000 to 14,500 square feet).

"The commission decided it was a worthwhile and compatible project," City Manager Marlowe Adkins said.

The commission will hold a public hearing on Dec. 5, to hear public input before making their decision as to whether or not they will approve the rezone.

Adkins added that the discussion was centered on the wisdom of bringing in residences next to the highway and the middle school. In the end the commission decided it would be better to bring in residences next to the middle school than businesses.

The city also plans to hold a public hearing at the Nov. 28 City Council meeting to get input from members of the community about recycling and the possibility of starting the recycling program early. If approved recyling could begin as early as next month.
