Would you pay extra for newspapers without holiday ads?

"I would, any time of the year. . . . That's not what I'm paying for; it's just as gratuitous as the ads they now run in movie-houses or telemarketers using your fun to spin their tales. No wonder newspaper readership is down: Before you can read it, you have to weed it."

Soulier, Watkins declared winners in North Logan election; recounts probable

By Natalie Andrews

November 19, 2005 | NORTH LOGAN -- Two last-second points may be enough to finalize an Aggie game, but for the council race, it isn't over yet.

Both the mayoral and council races have been tied since the municipal elections Nov. 8, waiting for 27 ballots. The council added those ballots in Thursday at the meeting, checking their eligibility.

According to the city's website, Steve Soulier won by two votes, just .01 percent. Because the margin is so small, opponent Troy Oldham has said that he will request a recount. He has until Tuesday to do so.

A recount could be requested for the mayoral race as well. Cary Watkins recieved 756 votes, candidate Allen Kartchner had 750. The margin to request a recount is six votes.

Should the recount show a tie, City Administrator Jeff Jorgenson said the mayor or councilman would be decided by flipping a coin.
