Today's word on journalism

Would you pay extra for newspapers without holiday ads?

"I would, any time of the year. . . . That's not what I'm paying for; it's just as gratuitous as the ads they now run in movie-houses or telemarketers using your fun to spin their tales. No wonder newspaper readership is down: Before you can read it, you have to weed it."

Hockey team blows out UVSC, 9-1, to get back on right track

By Jerome le Carrou

November 7, 2005 | The Utah States Aggies hockey team beat the UVSC Wolverines, 9-1, Saturday night at the Eccles Ice Center and improved to 6-1-9.

Aggies head coach Jerry Crossley said even though the 4-3 loss the night before against No. 1 ranked San Jose State was tough, he said the weekend had been big for his team.

"It's a huge step forward for us this wee end," said Crossley. "We started playing together, we started to pass the puck to each other."

Aggie forward Josh Groves said he could feel the team was ready to play. "It's a good turning point for the season. We have to take it into next week," Groves said.

Against a team that saw action for the first time this year, the Aggies didn't have any problems controlling the game. The Aggies spent most of the game on the Wolverines' side, putting pressure on their defense.
Seven Aggies scored.

Roberto Leo and Aaron Schimmel were the two Aggies to score two goals, while Mikel Roy, William Winsa, Parker Richards, Mike Walker and Mike Lewandowsky scored one.

Lewandowsky's goal symbolized the supremacy of the Aggies on the ice, as he scored on a Wolverine power play.

Aggies co-captain Robert Hashimoto didn't score but helped the Aggies with four assists.

The Aggies outshot the Wolverines, 76-10. Aggies goalie Dane Jorgensen, who made his first start of the year, recorded nine saves.

"It would have been nice for a first game, to have my first shutout," he said.

"It's only my third year as a goalie. I used to play in front of the crowd of my parents, so it feel great to have this crowd behind you the whole time," said Jorgensen.

The Aggies are now back on the right track before hosting Denver University Friday night.

According to the American Collegiate Hockey Association, the Aggies are ranked No. 10 in region while Denver University is ranked No. 2.

"I am not concerned about that [the ranking] right now," said Crossley, "It's early in the season and everybody is beating everybody."
