Senior citizen housing proposed for Hyde Park By
Jill Heffner HYDE PARK -- Recommendations for an ordinance governing a planned unit development (PUD) for senior citizens were made by the Planning and Zoning Commission. There will be a public hearing on the proposed ordinance Tuesday, Nov. 26. The commission's recommendations include a definition of "senior citizen," a provision for single and twin homes, and a requirement that PUDs occupy a 4-acre parcel whether in A-1 zones with 1-acre lots, or RE-20 zones with 20,000-square-foot lots and inner block development, on a case-by-case basis. The development will provide housing for adults age 50 and older. An association must be in place to handle the caretaking of the green space and snow removal on the sidewalks. A senior housing PUD fits within the city's general plan. The proposed ordinance is to meet the need within the city for affordable senior housing, Councilman Reed Elder said. The motion to recommend the ordinance received a unanimous vote by the commission. It will now be reviewed by the city council and voted on after the public hearing. The planning and zoning commission also voted unanimously to approve a 6-month conditional use permit to Jared Thompson and Tyson Savage for an unattended used-car lot. The permit will allow the business to run for six months without having to make any improvements to the property. Savage and Thompson want the six months to determine if they can stay in business. Savage said he and Thompson will sell cars on an appointment basis at the location on the west side of Highway 91 off Hyde Park Lane. The business will provide vehicles in the $3,000 to $7,000 price range Savage said. Savage and Thompson must appear before the commission again in six months to review the permit and determine what improvements must be made if they continue to run their business.
