Pat Blau's kept Nibley meetings on track for 10 years By
Stefanie Snow Blau is responsible for scheduling agendas and keeping minutes for both the city council and the planning and zoning meetings. That in itself is quite a job, requiring her presence at four meetings a month. With the way issues in Nibley have been heating up these days, those meetings aren't short and they aren't particularly enjoyable, as many council members will testify. After 10 years in City Hall, Blau's favorite part of the job is meeting people and knowing just about everything about everybody. "I like people: interacting with them, meeting the public and being of service to them," she said. Besides public meeting details, she is also responsible for all the billing, building records, and dog and business licenses, which is one of the reason why she knows everybody. Her least favorite part of her job has to with people also, particularly irate citizens. She said she spends a lot of time with city council members and doesn't enjoy hearing them constantly criticized by citizens. "They think we have a hidden agenda. They don't know the whole story," she said about angry Nibley residents. Blau moved to Logan with her husband, Sullivan, whom she calls her hero, two years ago after living in Nibley and enjoying its "small town atmosphere" for 27 years. After their six children eventually left home they decided to move to Logan where they could have a low-maintenance house and yard. She said she loves having a big family because kids "keep you young," which is a necessity for her, being the grandmother of 14. Blau is the second youngest of eight children and grew up in South Carolina. Since many of her family members still live in the South, she said her accent comes back anytime the family gets together. Like any good Southerner, she loves to cook.
