Hyrum mayor announces new park By
Ashley Stolworthy HYRUM -- The new park property that has been in buying negotiation for over a month was finally announced Thursday night by Mayor Gordon Olson. The 8-acre park will be located between 300 and 400 West, and Main St. and 200 North, around the corner from the Freshman Center and Willow Valley Middle School. The City's offers were accepted by the sellers -- Bob Tripper and Paul Nielsen -- for $45,000 for each 4-acre parcel. With this purchase, new residents will be charged a park impact fee, which is collected as new growth occurs, to be spent on improving and maintaining the city's park facilities. In other council business, council member Douglas Stipes moved to rescind Ordinance 2-15, also known as the Cache Access Management Plan, "for a need to get it off the books." "Looking back, I think we were misled with UDOT's approval and sanctions," Councilman Bruce James said. "I wholeheartedly agree to rescind Ordinance 2-15. With the ordinance specifically off the books, the council will be able to think about the management plan more thoroughly and tailor it to Hyrum's needs.
