Hyde Park resident divides property to save home By
Jill Heffner HYDE PARK -- A city resident plans to divide the property that he combined into one parcel just three years ago in an effort to save his home. Leo Huber, 238 N. 200 West, had previously combined two adjoining parcels of land into one lot. Huber told the Planning and Zoning Commission Tuesday he wants to redivide his property and create two lots. Under a new Hyde Park ordinance, Huber would be creating a minor subdivision. Like any other subdivision, the owner must pay for improvements. On Huber's land, improvements will consist of sidewalks for the two lots. If the lots had not been combined Huber would only have to pay for sidewalks on the undeveloped land. Huber must also pay for a full survey and recording. "I need the money to save my home," Huber said with concern over the additional cost for sidewalks. Huber said he is planning to retire in two years and would like to stay in his Hyde Park home. The commission approved the division of the land. The commission also approved a conditional use permit for an air compressor business, Hycomp. Hycomp will occupy the 6,000-square-foot area at 60 W. 3800 North that formerly housed The Jungle, a laser-tag amusement arena. The Jungle closed its door Saturday and is moving out of the building. Robert James, owner of Hycomp, is moving the business from Wyoming. James said he moved to Cache Valley three years ago and decided this area was a great place to relocate. Hycomp has been producing about 19 compressors a year, requiring up to eight employees. James has owned the business for seven years and the company has been in business for 30 years.
