Lions Club to give Hyrum a new city sign By
Karen Funk HYRUM -- A proposal by the Hyrum Lions Club to build a new Hyrum City sign was approved unanimously by the City Council at its Nov. 13 meeting. The Lions Club hopes the sign will serve as a welcome to those who enter the city and will replace the old wood sign, which has been missing for two years. It will be on the northwest corner of 800 East and Main, and will say "Hyrum City" in 3-dimensional, bronze letters with the Hyrum city seal placed above it. It will be supported by a stone retaining wall and will be lighted at night. "We're going to incorporate the look and feel of the historic wall that runs along Main Street," says Ryan Harper, designer of the new sign. "When people see that style then they'll know that it's affiliated with Hyrum City." The sign should be visible from a couple of hundred feet away when entering the city from the north, east or west. "It's going to not only draw the eye, but have a quality feel and impression that will carry on as people come and go," said Harper. "We would like to make this a community project," said Dean Harrison of the Lions Club. He wants local businesses to complete the stone framework. Mayor Gordon M. Olson said he was pleased with the idea of designing the sign to match the wall along Main Street.
