STAB gives students free showing of 'Fast and Furious' By
Steve Barfuss Five hundred students viewed a free movie Wednesday evening at the Taggart Student Center. Showings of The Fast and the Furious were organized by the student activity board (STAB). There were two showings of the movie that evening at the TSC, one movie at 8:30 p.m. and the other at 10:30 p.m. Andy Dilley, a senior majoring in history at Utah State University, and director of STAB said, "We had about 520 students that watched the movie. We could have had more students if we had a larger facility to watch the movie in." The companies that STAB works with to show the movies are Swank motion pictures and Cinemax. "Our previews we get from Cinemax and it's usually just a great promotion for them. Cinemax sends us posters and all sorts of promotional items for the movie," Dilley said. The organization STAB usually puts on six to 10 large activities a semester. The largest activity it organizes is the Howl. "The Howl has become the single largest activity that an organization puts together on campus," Dilley said. Each movie showing that STAB puts together costs anywhere from $500 to $1,200. "Usually once all the tickets are made, advertising, and of course the movie paid for. Each movie activity costs STAB about a thousand dollars," Dilley said. Frank Pyle, a junior majoring in engineering said, "I really like it when the university puts on activities like this movie, because I feel like I'm getting my tuition money back a little." Wendy Garrett, a senior majoring in exercise science, said, "I feel like I'm getting a bargain, and it's something all my friends can afford to go do." "From what students have said to me it seems the students like the free factor in the movie activities," Dilley said.
