Aggies open with win at Montana State By
the USU athletic media relations office Guard Tony Brown scored 16 points to lead Utah State's basketball team to a convincing 66-51 season-opening victory at Montana State Saturday. The game marked the first time that USU opened the year with a true road win since 1994. "It was nice to get a win to open the season, especially on the road, because it gives these kids some confidence," said head coach Stew Morrill. USU has now won eight straight season openers. Montana State fell to 0-2. Brown, the only returning starter from last year's 28-6 team, which advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, and newcomer point guard Ronnie Ross, who scored 11, were the only USU players in double figures. "We depend on everybody on our offense," Ross said. "Our big focus this week was to stop their transition and we were able to do that." Brown hit six of 11 attempts and added four rebounds. Brennan Ray came off the bench to add a team-high seven rebounds and four points. The teams will meet again Dec. 4 in Logan. USU's next game will be at 7:05 p.m. Friday at Utah.
