Wellsville considers automatic sprinklers in park

By Melissa Dymock

WELLSVILLE -- Installing automatic sprinklers in the city park could bring Wellsville into compliance with the governor's water conservation program.

Don Hartle, city clerk, brought the issue to the City Council Wednesday night. Hartle said the governor's program calls for no watering between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m,. and this would require a sprinkler system.

"It's tough to tell residents to conserve it we've got five sprinklers going," Hartle said.

The city pays kids to move the sprinklers around routinely throughout the summer, he said. It costs about $1,500 a summer to pay this way.

Hartle said the initial bid for the system is about $30,000. Council members voted unanimously to give Hartle permission to get a more detailed bid and bring it back to the council.
