Potter defeats White for North Logan mayor seat, 1,007 to 323 By
Jessica Kelly NORTH LOGAN -- Val Potter won the mayoral seat by 68 percent of the vote in the North Logan election Tuesday. He will start his four-year term in January, 2002. Potter defeated L.D. White, 1,007 votes to 323 votes. Potteršs campaign focused mainly on residential and commercial city growth. He said his biggest goal as mayor will be ensuring the city does not grow too fast. Whitešs campaign focused on creating better city management by having a full-time mayor. Potter, a 13-year resident of North Logan, previously served as a city councilman from 1992 to 1996. His wife Nancy Potter currently serves on the city council. Her term ends this year. Two city council members were also elected. Lloyd Berentzen and Elaine Nelson were elected to fill the positions. Berentzen received 987 votes and Nelson had 860 votes. Coming in third was candidate Lee Burningham with 617 votes. Berentzen, who has an MBA, said he wants to promote and protect North Logan. Nelson, a council member of 2 years, campaigned with the platform of dealing with continuing growth and diversity. She said she also wanted to see more opportunities for citizens to be involved in local government.
