Sophomore Emmett White averages 18.1 yards per punt return for the USU football team, and that's good enough to make him the best -- at least for now.

White enters the game Saturday against New Mexico State as the nation's leader in the statistical category of most yards per return.

The graduate of Ben Lomond High School in Ogden has had four returns of at least 30 yards this season, and his longest was 69 yards against Kansas State.

The Big West Conference record is 15.7 yards per return by Dwight Pickens of Fresno State in 1989. White needs eight more returns to have the 25 necessary to qualify for the season record.

No Aggie has led the nation in a football statistical category since Louie Giammona had the most all-purpose yards per game in 1975.
