Providence
antes up for mosquito abatement program
By Shauna Leavitt
March 24, 2005 | PROVIDENCE -- The
City Council has agreed to make a one-time payment of
$2,040.50 to the Cache Mosquito Abatement District to
help cover its 2005 expenses.
"Providence's contribution was 35 center per person
based on a population of 5,830," said Vern Keeslar,
city planner.
The 2005 mosquito abatement is estimated to cost more
than $150,000. All towns and cities which are part of
the Cache Mosquito Abatement District have been asked
to contribute. Logan will not be contributing since
it has its own mosquito abatement program.
"Bear River Health Department (BRHD) will be hired
to do the mosquito spraying because they know what they're
doing," said Bryan D. Cox, a member of the Cache Mosquito
Abatement District council. "It is impossible to spray
everywhere so it is important to hire [an agency] that
knows where to spray to get the best results."
Due to the increase in moisture, it is anticipated
that 2005 will be a difficult year for controlling the
mosquito population.
In other business, the council granted a conditional
use permit for a home business for colon hydrotherapy
to Colette Yates, 560 Edgewood Drive.
