Millville P&Z approves plan for two subdivisions

By Joseph Sheppard

March 12, 2005 | MILLVILLE -- New phases in both the Shire and Millville Hill subdivisions received recommendations for permits from the city Planning Commission and will be presented to the City Council once they are approved by the city engineer.

Phase 3 of the Shire, consisting of 22 lots, was reviewed by the commission. The city engineer had previously stated 24 concerns on the subdivision, so the planning commission recommended the plans be presented to the city council with the stipulation that all of the concerns had to be signed off by the engineer before presentation.

Just so everybody understands, I will not even entertain putting it on the agenda until we have word in writing from the engineer that these things are done," Mayor Mike Johnson told the developers.

Phase 2 of Millville Hills will have 16 lots. Its building plans were approved with the understanding that 400 East be moved 33 feet to the west, lots 22 and 23 have access only to 300 East, lots 32-35 have access only to 400 East and that the developer recommend to the buyer of lot 27 that a circular driveway be put in.

Craig Smith, owner of Greyeye enterprises and developer of the Shire, said the last approvals from the engineer had taken a long time, and said the engineer was difficult to contact.

"It would be nice to have a local engineer, mayor," Adam Mackelprang, a Greyeye employee, said.

Johnson smiled and told Mackelprang the city had been advertising for an engineer and invited him to apply.

In other news, the commission gave clearance for a single family residence in the Shire and also recommended that Jason Stolle be given clearance to rent out the basement of his home as a separate apartment.
