charges

March 3, 2005 | LOGAN -- A 19-year-old
Utah State University student accused of threatening
to use a 12-gauge shotgun to blow the door off his ex-girlfriend's
apartment now faces third-degree felony and misdemeanor
charges, said USU Police Lt. Steve Milne.
Michael Bradon Stump was arrested Saturday night when
police responded to a harassment report at the Utah
State University Student Living Center, where both Stump
and his ex-girlfriend reside.
Police said Stump told them he had a gun in his car
and allowed them to search the vehicle. Police, upon
entering the car, smelled burnt marijuana and reportedly
found marijuana residue inside, said Milne.
When Stump was asked about the marijuana he told police
he had smoked it "yesterday" and said, "Damn, I thought
I got rid of that s---," said Patrol Officer Jessica
Spencer.
Stump became agitated Saturday afternoon when he learned
from his ex-girlfriend that another man was in her apartment
with her.
"He had a hard time letting go," said Milne.
Stump accused his ex-girlfriend of cheating on him
and did not want to accept her breaking up with him.
Stump's ex-girlfriend said he demanded that the visitor
leave and made numerous calls and visits to her apartment
Saturday afternoon, pleading that she talk with him.
She repeatedly told Stump to stop calling and coming
over to her apartment. Later Saturday night, according
to police, Stump told his ex-girlfriend he would use
a shotgun to blow the back door off of her apartment
if she would not let him in. Stump then ran to the front
door of the apartment where he entered into an argument
with other building residents, who told him to leave
or they'd call the police. Stump's ex-girlfriend said
he responded by saying, "What are you gonna do?" and
telling residents he would mess up their cars.
Stump faces one third-degree felony charge because
of a prior drug DUI arrest, which prohibits him from
possessing a firearm, a class A misdemeanor charge related
to possession of marijuana, a class B misdemeanor charge
in connection with telephone harassment, and a disorderly
conduct infraction, according to his preliminary hearing
Wednesday.
