'Best meeting' picks four Nibley delegates to state GOP convention By
Matt Eichner NIBLEY -- Delegates from Nibley for the state and county Republican conventions were chosen Monday night at the neighborhood caucus at Nibley Elementary School. Party members at the caucus voted four delegates to the state convention in Salt Lake City, to be held on May 11. The delegates for Nibley are Sharon Hagloch, Elaine Dransfield, Ann Welker and Bill Player. About 40 residents showed up, to the delight of Elaine Dransfield, Republican precinct chair for Nibley. "I'm very impressed," Dransfield said. "Best meeting I've every been to." She said she was also impressed by the participation of the group. There was a tie for the last two delegate positions among three candidates in the voting, and there had to be a run-off vote. Dransfield and Player beat out Marylyn Peart, who was named the alternate delegate. The initial vote was suspended at the suggestion of Larry Anhder, who wanted to know how each delegate would vote concerning Republican candidates for the First District seat being vacated by Congressman Jim Hansen. Of the delegates named in the voting, only Dransfield indicated a preference at this point. She said she is currently supporting Vickie McCall. The members at the caucus also elected 12 delegates to the county convention. They are Paul Burtenson, Neil Johnson, Levell Tippetts, Kathryn Anhder, Bob Sidwell, Terry Briggs, Mike Norton, Mark Teuscher, Bill Player, Nancy Player, Richard Knight and Sharon Hagloch. Three alternates were also named. The caucus also adopted a resolution calling on County Executive Lynn Lemon and the County Council to consider changing the practice of only naming to the County Planning and Zoning Commission residents of unincorporated Cache County. Larry Anhder, a member of the County Council, recommended this after telling the caucus of the practice, which he said does not represent about 97 percent of the population in Cache County. In other business, the caucus re-elected Elaine Dransfield as precinct chair. Paul Burtenson was elected vice-chair and Neil Johnson was elected secretary/treasurer.
