Hyrum council pushes spring clean-up By
Shanna Nielsen HYRUM -- "You can see we have a highly controversial agenda tonight with all the people who have turned out," Mayor Olson said to the City Council and just two audience members Thurday night. Although few community members were there to hear about it, the Hyrum council spoke about a spring clean-up project that is planned to begin April 12. "They're really enthusiastic about it," Councilman Larry Gittins said, referring to the clean-up committee. "Hopefully the citizens will clean up where they need to." "If there are people who are interested and want to serve...they could use more help," Olson said. "The more citizens involved, the better. This project is viewed as a citizens' initiative." The project will involve removing broken-down cars from city property and straightening up residential yards. The council also plans to make two appointments to the Planning Commission. At the meeting, Kelly Roberts was appointed and suggestions were welcomed for another. The other appointee will be determined at a later date.
