Paradise gives emergency water to resident whose spring has gone dry By
Ginger Kelley PARADISE -- The spring at Kristy Dorigatti's home has gone dry, leaving her family of four children without much water. Wednesday night Dorigatti appealed to the town council for emergency water until a permanent well can be hooked up to her home. "We all bathe in the same water," Dorigatti said. Mayor Lee Atwood said the well that is the solution to this problem will be provided by Dennis Jones, who sold the property and home to Dorigatti at 8696 S. 500 West. Jones came to the council last year asking for emergency water for the same reason, Atwood said, which makes it difficult to give water again without setting a precedent for other possible situations similar to this. "We're caught in the middle like you," Atwood said to Dorigatti. "Jones has put the town in a bad spot," said Councilwoman Karen Rinderknecht. "He should have taken care of this a year ago and he didn't." The council unanimously passed a motion by Councilwoman Margaret Obray to allow water to be given to Dorigatti as long as Jones puts up a $2,500 deposit guaranteeing the well will be completed by April 8. If the Dorigatti home does not have water by this date, Obray said, the deposit will be forfeited and used at the city's discretion. "We're trying to make Jones responsible so you're not in the same situation again next year," Obray said to Dorigatti. In other business, council members discussed remodeling the interior of the fire house with state money that may be available. There is water damage inside from a leaky roof that needs to be repaired. They also discussed the possibility of adding an exercise room for the firefighters.
