Aggies nip SUU for second, behind ASU, at home gymnastics meet By
Liz Bellessa USU's final score was 195.425, and SUU was right behind the Aggies with a 195.275. ASU led the way with a 196.100. It was obvious that one of the main goals for the meet was not to count any falls, head Coach Ray Corn said. The Aggies started out strongly with a score of 9.825 from Nicole Kilpatrick on the vault, followed by Kirra Seeley gaining another 9.825 on the uneven bars. After the first rotation the Aggies were behind with a score of 48.850, while the Arizona Sun Devils led with 49.250. When the second rotation cam around the Sun Devils ended up strong on the floor. The tumbling by ASU on the floor had amazing choreography, and salsa music to go with it. Finishing up on the floor for ASU, Kari Muth scored 9.925 with an amazingly difficult routine. With the exception of Kristen Bloom who has a sore knee and ankle, the Aggies are a healthy gymnastics team. ASU was not so lucky Friday night as the team headed into the last rotation on the vault. Trisha Dixion was only second to appear on the vault, but as she was in the air she under-rotated. Coming out of her rotation she landed on the mat head first, but sat up, turned her head from side to side, and then fell back against the mat. Trainers and coaches from all teams rushed to her aid to see how they could help. Around 8:45 p.m. an ambulance came and put her on a gurney to rush her to the hospital. She was in and out of consciousness as she left the Spectru, and that will hurt ASU in part at the Western Gymnastics Conference Championship this Friday. Corn said he hopes the Aggies step up Friday on the bars and the beam, and the floor exercise as well.
