Clear our snow too, River Heights residents speak out By
Matt Stephens RIVER HEIGHTS -- Residents of Stuart Hill Court voiced concerns about lack of snow removal from their cul-de-sac at Tuesday's City Council meeting. Many claimed Stuart Hill Court is the last place in the city to get plowed, and they are upset. "We just want to be considered equal with our neighbors. When they get plowed, we should get plowed," said one disgruntled resident. Kent Parker, public works director, said that there are roads in the city that have priorities. Roads that have lots of traffic get done before cul-de-sacs. Parker said often he is in the plow for 12-13 hours after a snow storm, and he might not get to some places until late at night. Residents agree that this has been an uncommon year, but they feel "left out". They suggested that Stuart Hill should not be considered done until Stuart Hill Court is done. Other suggestions from the public included hiring more help or getting a larger plow. Councilman Noel Cooley and Mayor Vic Jensen welcomed the comments, but said there is not enough money and that residents are just going to have to make due during this harsh year. The council also voted to approve a new fee schedule for dog licenses. "The new fees will make people more responsible dog owners," said Parker. The resolution was passed after the addition of a $10 impound fee. The council also heard arguments on the widening of 800 South. The current road is 33 feet wide; however, the city would like to make the road 66 feet wide in order to incorporate sewer pipes and a sidewalk. A property owner along 800 South argued that the extra 33 feet needed to widen the road is his property. The council decided that the city would only use 53 feet, using approximately 10 feet to the north and 10 feet to the south of the existing road.
