Mountain Crest student to lead Providence Youth Council By
Tyra Leonard
Jenna Petersen took her oath of office for the 2001 Providence City Youth Council Tuesday night at the Providence City Council meeting. According to Petersen, Providence City Youth Council is made up of about 35 to 40 youth between the ages of 13 and 18. The council, she said, was organized to give youth opportunities for service and to help them better understand the functions of city government. Petersen, a 16-year-old student at Mountain Crest High School, said she joined the city youth council to be involved in the community. "We put on summer camps for kids. We also get together and do service projects," Petersen said. The youth council also plays a big part in Providence City's "Sauerkraut Days," Petersen said, which is "a celebration of the founding of Providence." Along with witnessing Petersen's oath of office, the council approved business licenses for Swenson Electric and Stevens Henager College, and discussed modifying a proposed noise ordinance.
