Hot to Trot: USU Fashion Show brings fashion to forefront

From sleek and strapless, to crazy with khaki, the Utah State University apparel and textiles department's fashion show promises the newest and coolest will fit into just about anyone's closet this summer.

A full crowd of students packed into the Taggart Student Center international lounge during Friday afternoon's show, while a comparable crowd filled the tables for the evening performance, as models sauntered along the runway in this year's biggest hits.

The fashion show is put on by students of the department and features clothing both donated from stores in Logan and those along the Wasatch Front, as well as students' own designs and ideas. And with the exception of food, just about everything else is donated.

While last year's theme focused on a decade of clothing and featured the revolving and reappearing wear of the '60s and '70s, this year's theme went all out with a movie theme highlighting particular stars and their clothing that at one time or another, set the standard for fashion.

Movies ranged from the prim and proper of Breakfast at Tiffany's, to the outrageous Austin Powers, and the millenial elegance of the Matrix. And don't forget the dark side of fashion. This year's rock 'n' roll models left mom breathless and the little sisters saying, "Yeah! Cool." For those who like to make an astonishing entrance, spiked-blue hair, funky black leather skirts and mesh-looking nylons will get you off to a great start.

The show, hosted by coordinator Sunny Edmisten, was seemingly flawless and the models pulled off a confident stride across the runway, managing a great, "I'm loving this, " smile, despite their nervousness.

In the end the crowd went wild with applause and many were commended for their particiapation and efforts. A great show, well done, and definitely deserving of a two thumbs up rating.
