Theatre Department receives Kennedy Center Medallion of Excellence

By the USU Theatre Arts Department

There are only two Kennedy Center Medallions of Excellence given out each year and Utah State University's Department of Theatre Arts received one on February 13 at the American College Theatre Festival--Region VIII held in Las Vegas.

It was given both in recognition of the service given by four regional theatre coordinators housed in the department as well as for the five scenery and costume design students whose work has been invited to the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, for the past five years after winning in regional competitions.

This year students Melinda McDermott and Allison Stubbs were recognized regionally with cash awards for make up/mask and scenic designs for last year's children's production of "Ming Lee and the Magic Tree." Milo Mowery received a cash award for his original play "Obligation" at the Rocky Mountain Theatre Festivention in Cedar City, and an invitation to present this work at the American College Theatre Festival in California next year.
