New sidewalk may be built in North Logan

By Lynnette Hoffman

NORTH LOGAN -- Children in North Logan may soon have a safe place to walk, but there is a cost.

The city received a grant to build a sidewalk from 800 East to 2500 North, continuing over to the elementary school, Mayor Jack Draxler announced at the City Council meeting last night.

Because 800 East is a state owned road, there will be little flexibility for homeowners, the Mayor said. In comparison, when a sidewalk was built last year along 1200 North, the city was able to work with the individuals and families who were affected.

Residents with sloped driveways may experience some inconvenience, and the state will not likely be able to work around landscaping or sprinkler systems.

"The state has a right of way there, and they're going to use it," Draxler said. "We will not have as much flexibility as we did on 1200 North last year."

A meeting will be held on Wednesday, March 8, for residents who may be affected by construction of the sidewalk. The mayor and several City Council members will be on hand, in the North Logan Library at 7 p.m. to answer questions and further explain the situation.

While reviewing their budget, the City Council also discussed the tentative plans for Green Canyon Park, the repair of a boiler in the library and the possible purchase of a trailer to be used as a new city float.
